Well ... the gig at Yellowstone (Roosevelt General Store) is over and we're on our way to the Grand Canyon North Rim!! We're currently parked next to the Blacktail Deer Creek in Dillon, Montana.  Only planned to stay overnight, but it's so nice here, we're going to stay another day before continuing South thru ID & UT.

FINALLY, have a good internet connection so I'll be uploading some Yellowstone and Teton pix over the next couple of days.   Just have to get them off my card and backed up.  Stay tuned ....

Beartooth Highway Roadtrip

Took a ride along the Beartooth highway today.  136 miles (68 one way) of some of the most beautiful scenery in the US. Climbs over 10,000 feet and has a zillion hills turns and switchbacks. Many picturesque lakes, snow (still), and a million rugged peaks.  Stopped by Hitching Post in Yellowstone to look for wolves and caught a typical Yellowstone scene - stream, fisherman and LOTS of Bison.  This area typically has a herd of 500-700 bedded down for the night.

Bullwinkle

Finally got to see a moose that's been running around near the Petrified Tree near Roosevelt.  Not the greatest shot ... but we saw him on our lunch break with his back to the sun, so a lot of shadows ... BUT, it's clearly a bull moose!

Mesa Falls, Yellowstone Falls

Took a ride along the back side of the Tetons to Mesa Falls and then some late evening/night shots at the Yellowstone Canyon
Margie likes this shot with the water more natural
I like the "fuzzy water" shots

This is then sun streaming through the mist at Upper Mesa Falls
Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
Took this shot just after the sun went down and the moon shone through a break in the clouds

Finally back online via a brand new $138 router ... thanks Millenicom!

This little guy wanted to join us for lunch!  came about 30 ft from the car while we we're eating a special Margie concoction of spaghetti squash, mushrooms and some more secret ingredients.  It was GOOD!  He thought so too! :)

Sunset last night - the first one we've actually gotten to sit and enjoy - was fabulous.  Storm clouds, lightning, clearing and sunset all happening at the same time.  Got to see black bears 4 different times today, but unfortunately no pictures! :(

Basically dealing with dial-up speeds on the internet connection ... Here are a couple shots of the HUGE falls/cascade we found near the WY/MT border in Shoshone National Forest.  Also a beautiful double rainbow taken DURING a pouring rain near the Lamar Valley and Elk Creek

This Falls/Cascade is ENORMOUS. It muat be at least 1/4 mile long and the volume and velocity of the water is amazing!!  Unfortunately ... these two took well over an hour to upload ... time to go to work ... :(

Traveling through eastern WY Wed 5/29 and staying in Buffalo, WY.  We had Buffalo Burgers for dinner in Buffalo, WY and washed them down with a draft of Moose Drool (no lie) beer.  Margie was ecstatic!!
Headed across Montana tomorrow to end up Friday in Bozeman, MT to pick up our rental car and head to our 3 month home in Yellowstone Saturday AM. Our site is confirmed to be ready and waiting!!  We start work on Monday!
Sunset at Sprague Lake ... normally dinnertime for the Moose

Saw Momma Owl near her nest when we first arrived at RMNP, but didn't see the baby until the LAST day.  I THINK this eas the first time s/he left the nest!  First time I've ever seen a baby Great Horned Owl!!

Alberta Falls @ RMNP ... pretty heavy water flows ... warmed up a bit in the mountains this week setting off a lot of snow melt!

On Memorial Day, the moon set right after the sun rose ... pretty cool!!!

Sunrise at Sprague Lake in Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park (RMNP).Note the pink cast on the mountaintops ... this happens sometimes when weather conditions are just right.

The "gray" bottoms on all the trees are from bears marking their territory and elk eating the bark or cleaning/sharpening their antlers ... sometimes kills the trees
Finally got to see some Bighorn Sheep in Sheep Lakes ...

Great Horned Owl ... baby was in the nest, but we couldn't get a good shot.  Yellow headed woodpecker was something we've never seen before.

Streams are flowing pretty heavy with the warmer weather and increased snow melt

Bull Elk was not real happy to have us around his harem.

Sprague Lake is really (depressingly) different from our last visit! :(  Everywhere you look the trees have either been cut down, fallen down, or are dying from the Pine Beetle damage.

The stream we walked along from our campsite and Margie happily sitting near Bullwinkle at the Red Rocks Grill in Morrison, CO
